Our Annual Summit took place on Thursday, October 26 with 32 Bird Towns represented and 39 participants. The summit provided a wonderful opportunity to share and celebrate our successes for the year, welcome our newest Bird Town leaders, congratulate our mini-grant recipients and thank Penn Community Bank for their generous donation. Kelly Boyle, from Penn Community Bank, gave a short presentation about the outreach work they do and highlights of our partnership.

The summit also provided the opportunity to reflect on and celebrate our accomplishments, including:

  • Added nine new Bird Towns since the last summit,
  • Completed the process to federally “trademark” our name “Bird Town Pennsylvania” and logowith all the rights and privileges that go along with this registration,
  • Joined the Bird City Network led by the American Bird Conservancy and the Environment for the Americas,
  • Received a $10,000 donation from Penn Community Bank. With these funds, eleven $500 mini-grants were awarded following a criteria, application process and rubric scoring system,
  • Developed, published and distributed a beautiful Rack Card about our program and also a new Native Plant Brochure,
  • Created a Ways and Means Committee to address funding and sponsorships,
  • Held four Workshopsin collaboration with WeConservePA and the PA Audubon Council (All the Workshop Toolkits can be found on the Google Share Drive)
  • Developed and held with Valley Forge Audubon a special Bird Town Webinar in the Spring to engage and encourage municipalities in their territory to join the Bird Town Program. Thanks, in part, to their support, our program expanded by 6 new Bird Towns in their Audubon Chapter territory and with more on the way! They also generously gave us $1000 to help fund our new Rack Card!
  • Worked with PA Audubon Council and continue to engage with nine Audubon Chapters and WeConservePA and other partners to expand and grow the program across the state.
